The Forward

In September 2011 I started my adventure with Scouts Canada.

I have always been a volunteer.  It has come in a few different forms, mostly basketball coach, also youth leader, and in the summer, camp staff.   For some reason I never really thought much about Scouts, even though I was aware of the organization.   I wasn't involved as a kid.  (My church had their own churchy version which sometime, I'm going to write a post about that in the future)

They tell me I'm a bit rare: A volunteer that comes in on his own power, without any arm twisting.  I'm not sure what specific thing pushed me to send an email and ask how to sign up.  (I want to write a few posts about the things that certainly influenced me)  I had walked past the Scout Hall in Gravenhurst many times, but never gave it much thought.  I got an email back saying that I should come and meet the current Scout Leaders.  I did.  Then next thing I knew I was part of opening and I haven't looked back.

My hope is that I can document some of the things that I have learned and experienced along the way.  I'm not sure that anyone will read this, but I know how many Google searches I have made looking for answers, so maybe someone will stumble on to some small wisdom here.

So here's my journey to be the best Scouter I can be.
